Spellbinding Seven of a Legend

CHENNAI: Seven thematic productions of legendary dancer Padma Subrahmanyam have made their way into DVDs in ‘Nritya Saptaham,’ launched by Swathi Soft Solutions in Chennai on Thursday.

The set of DVDs are recordings of live performances of the artiste on the themes ‘Krishnaya Tubhyam Namaha,’ ‘Ramaya Tubhyam Namaha,’ ‘Bhagavad Gita,’ ‘Jaya Jaya Sankara,’ ‘Meenakshi Kalyanam,’ ‘Paripadal mudhal Bharathi varai,’ and ‘Sangamam.’

K.S. Sudhakar, partner, Swathi Soft Solutions, said that the company was commemorating its 10th anniversary with the launch of the DVDs.

Birthday Celebrations of a Living Legend

September 17th, the birthday of the legend,Violin Maestro Padmabhushan Sri Lalgudi G. Jayaraman was celebrated jointly by Swathi Soft Solutions and the Lalgudi family in a grand manner at Vani Mahal, T.Nagar.

The program commenced with an invocation sung by one of Sri Lalgudi’s disciple Kumari Kritika. She rendered a composition of Sri. Lalgudi in the raga Shanmukhapriya. Following that was a 30 minute soulful recital by Smt. Shankari Krishnan, an A grade artist of All India Radio and a senior disciple of Sri Lalgudi.

For young aspirants

This DVD is a boon for many young aspirants of Carnatic music who may not be able to take lessons by visiting the guru’s home.

Swathi Soft Solutions have to be congratulated for bringing out these DVDs under review for as per their introduction at the beginning, it is indeed a dream come true for many students away from Chennai who now have the access to learn select compositions from reputed gurus.
