T. R. Subramanyam, or TRS as he is more popularly known amongst most music loving rasikas is a vidwan with uncommon traits. He is unconventional in the sense, that he is a daredevil willing to explore new avenues, regardless of whether his new ideas are accepted or not. He may not start his concert with a traditional varnam or a kriti on Ganesha. On one occasion, the opening item of his concert was a javali in Kapi ragam!
TRS is scholarly and original in his approach to learning new kritis. Though TRS is a multilinguist, until he is confident of the meaning of song- whether the kriti is in Telugu, Kannada, Sanskrit or Tamil, he will not attempt to sing it. Before presenting a new kriti at a concert he pays particular attention to learn the correct words of the sahitya and the correct pronunciation of each word. When TRS renders a kriti, each sangati is rendered with clarity allowing the listener to pick up the words of the song.

Born into a family of musicians in Rudrapatna in Hassan district in Karnataka, R K Suryanarayana (1937-2003) had a unique style with which he mesmerized his audience. A child prodigy, RKS mastered veena under the tutelage of his illustrious father R.S Keshavamurthy, a highly revered musician in the court of the Mysore kings. He tuned his instrument to perfection and created an aural spell as his fingers struck, strummed and plucked the strings. Highly articulate and erudite, he was at home with both composing music and sahitya.

Shri. Ramnad Krishnan was born on 14th September 1918 at Alleppey in Kerala in a family of musicians, all the six brothers being accomplished artistes. Bharata Natyam is a classical Indian dance form originating in the Southern Indian temple dance tradition, which combines the arts of the stage, music, poetry, costuming and rhythm. Ramya Harishankar, who established her own dance school Arpana (meaning "offering") in Orange County, learned Bharata Natyam from traditional gurus in India, has performed and toured internationally for over twenty years. Trisha Banjeree has been under her tutelage for the past four years and recently performed her arangetram or solo debut. During this apprenticeship they will prepare a margam, a repertoire of seven items to be presented as a full-length solo performance of two hours.
