GanakalaBhushana Veena L Raja Rao (1909 - 1979) was a worthy successor to the celebrated Mysore style of veena playing. A multifaceted artiste, Raja Rao has left his mark as a vainika, gayaka, guru, an actor and an expert musicologist. Raja Raos pioneering work as an author of musicology in Kannada language, and as a composer who set to musical notations, hundreds of Haridasa padas and Shivasharana kritis, is widely recognized. In this series, we are happy to present vaggeyakara Raja Rao. We have also included one composition of Bhairavi Lakshminaranappa (1878 - 1934), Veena Raja Raos Father and Guru. Veena Kinhal, Raja Raos daughter and disciple, is spreading the rich family tradition of veena playing, by performing across the world and teaching veena in USA. She now dedicates this album to her beloved father Guru L. Raja Rao on the occasion of his Birth Centenary Year 2009.
