Accompanists:
Sangitha Kalanidhi T.N. Krishnan - Violin | Sangitha Kalanidhi Vellore Ramabhadran - Mridangam
If an artist was endowed with a baritone voice that would be the envy of a Pavarotti or a Bocellie, also blessed with delightful musical sensibility, creative instincts of a composer and inherited the lineage of Thyagaraja-Patnam-Poocchi-Tiger? that was M.D. Ramanathan (MDR).
MDR is renowned for his slow and soulful rendition of compositions. This CD brings out a lot of his slow and soul filling compositions as well as his own compositions in soft ragas. Some of MDR's majestic compositions like Gajavadana in Hamsadwani, Thillana in Kapi, Maname Ramanai in a beautiful Sindhubairavi, in this CD, bring out his creative instincts as a Composer.
His low sruti was a challenge to the violin and mridangam, but accompanists delighted in his truly rich shruti-aligned idiom and the measured gait of his music. Enjoy this CD and get entranced by MDR's erudition, baritone voice, melody and method.
