Sada Sharanam - a tribute
to the guru and composer, Shri Ravikiran, aims to encapsulate some of the
scintillating pieces of the master composer through a set of instructional
DVDs where the student gets the benefit of learning various genres of compositions
from the maestro himself. This is apart from learning the background/inspiration
behind the compositions along with insights about the musical and mathematical
nuances intended by the composer. The product includes tana varnams, pada
varnams, krtis and tillanas in entertaining and popular ragas as well as
evocative rakti ragas. Unmai Unarndor, a ragamalika composition and a thought
provoking social critique, enhances the colour of the presentation.
Ravikiran, hailed as an unprecedented phenomenon when he made his debut
at the age of two (in 1969) with an uncanny ability to identify and demonstrate
325 ragas and 175 talas and answer numerous other technical questions posed
by several stalwarts, gave his first vocal concert at five and first chitravina
recital at the age of 12 and is today, one of the most sought after artistes
in the world. The substance and quality of Ravikirans contribution in the
versatile roles of chitravina virtuoso, composer, vocalist, guru and author
are held in the highest regard across the world. He attributes all his success
to his gurus Chitravina Narasimhan and Sangita Kalanidhi T Brinda.
