The Divya Prabhandam, which distils the wisdom of the Vedas and serves it up as exquisite Tamil poetry, extols Saranaagathi or surrender as a central precept. Kulasekhara Alwar, the 7th of the Alwars, through the renunciation of his throne and the worship of the Lord's followers as the Lord himself, was a living embodiment of Saranaagathi. Thirty verses from Kulashekara Alwar's Perumal Thirumozhi have been selected and set to thirty distinct ragas by Ashok Subramanian, in a ragamalika form. The ragas for this project, have been carefully chosen keeping in my mind the meaning of the individual verses and range from gana ragas such as Thodi, Kalyani to lighter ragas such as Revathi, Chandrakauns and rarer ones such as Vaasanthi.
Cantos 3 (Saranaagathi), 4 (Thiruvengadam), and 5 (Thiruvittuvakodu) were chosen for their emotive appeal arising from their bhakti bhava and relative popularity.
Chitra Srikrishna an accomplished musician renders the pasurams, bringing life to his poetry. She is a disciple of Smt. Seethalakshmi Venkatesan and has performed widely in India and overseas. She is a graded artist of the AIR and an ardent practitioner of the Semmangudi tradition, having trained earlier under Sri OS Tyagarajan and Sri. V. Subrahmanian.
The hallmark of this product is a spectacular introduction by Sri Velukkudi Swami on Kulasekara Alwar and his work.
