Sri.Tukaram Ganapathi Maharaj Adhikari of
Viswa Vanakari Samasthan, Kadayanallur, hails from a family of traditional
bhajan singers, Even at a very young age, Ganapathi Murthy, (as he was earlier
called) was attracted towards Abhangs. (ABHANGS are from music which are the
spontaneous devotional out pourings of Maharshtrian Saints like Gyaneswar,
Tukaram etc.) Sri. Tukaram Ganapathi Maharaj learnt to sing Abhangs in the
typical " Varakari" style, from Sri. N.Vitoba Naik and Sri.N.Venkatesh Naik of
Kochi. The Title of "Tukaram" was given in appreciation of his Abhang rendering,
by his Guru Sri.Krishna Premi Maharaj and he is thus known to the world as Sri.
