'Varistha' meaning 'Excellence which cannot
be excelled', presents a series of concerts to be remembered and cherished,
with utmost dedication and sincerity. This concert features two legends
of carnatic music known for their strict adherence to tradition and aesthetic
presentation. Sangita Kalanidhi Palghat K.V. Narayanaswamy is the true representative
and torch bearer of the legendary Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar tradition.
Imbibing the best qualities from his illustrious Guru, KVN created a very
fine bani of his own which became famous for Sruthi Suddha, rhythmical excellence,
Bhava laden music steeped in tradition. Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman evolved
his own style that is a display of clarity, deployment of fast paced prayogas,
combined with unique 'sollus' that are characterized by the naadam that
one experiences from his mridangam. V.V.Ravi on the violin and T.V.Vasan
on the Ghatam provide excellent support to add colour in combing with the
legends to complete the team work that make this a very memorable concert.
TThis concert held under the auspices of Sri Thyagaraja Sangeetha Vidwath
Samajam, Mylapore is a fitting homage to the illustrious disciples of Saint
Thyagaraja, Umayalpuram Krishna Bhagavathar and Sundara Bhagavathar, which
KVN sang with utmost devotion and dedication. The soul stirring Hecharika
in Yadukula kambhoji and an outstanding Mohanam are something to cherish.
Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman embellishes the songs with amazing varieties and
creative laya interpretations that further enhances the concert performance.
Aptly, KVN sings ' Sogasuga ' where both legends excel to translate the
emotion packed krithi to the audience that draws accolades from both musicians
and rasikas.
