Sikkil Gurucharan is the first generation vocalist from an illustrious family of flautists (Padmasri, Sangita Kalanidhi Sikkil Sisters). His sonorous voice and a presentation method that adds glamour to the traditional way of singing has been applauded by critics and listeners alike.
The compositions presented by this young artist in this concert are some of the choicest that include a soul stirring Tevaram (Gnanathal), Edayya gathi, Kanakasabhai and Ardhanareeswaram, a rare Kriti of Dikshithar in the raga Kumudakriya. Excellent expositions of Mukhari and Shanmukhapriya are part of this superb concert. He has been ably supported by Madurai Balasubramaniam on the violin. Padmasri Kadri Gopalnath is a renowned Indian saxophonist and one of the pioneers of Carnatic music on the saxophone. He is hailed as the "Saxophone Chakravarthy". So successful has his adaptation of the instrument to Carnatic Music been, that Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, the doyen of Carnatic music, acknowledged Kadri Gopalnath as a true musical genius. Gopalnath has participated in the reputed Jazz Festivals in Prague, Berlin , Mexico, Paris and Royal Albert Hall, London and has toured all over the world. O.S Thyagarajan is a renowned musician in the field of Carnatic classical Music. He started his journey into music under the able guidance of his father Sri O.V.Subramaniam a well known musician, and further honed his skills learning from doyens like Sri Lalgudi G. Jayaraman and Sri T.M.Thyagarajan. He has several titles and awards to his credit. He has performed concerts extensively in India and abroad. He is an all time favorite among avid listeners of traditional Classical Music, much admired for his wide repertoire, a mellifluous voice and effortless rendering. He has served as the Dean of the Department of Music at Annamalai University, Chidambaram.
